Josh Flitter ACE Ventura Jr. Pet Detective
Allllllrighty then! After Ace Ventura returned to Florida from his African adventure in "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls," he married his girlfriend Melissa and became a father to Ace Jr. (played by yours truly). Soon after the baby's birth, another crazy caper called Ace Sr. away, and he hasn't been heard from since. Twelve years later, Melissa is a single mother trying to put the past behind her. However, my character makes it harder for her because he starts following in his father's footsteps—he spends most of his time trying to recover his classmates' missing pets. He has a way of getting into trouble like his father, too!
The trouble starts when a baby panda goes missing from the zoo where Melissa works, and she is wrongly accused of being the culprit! Ace Jr. must find a way to come to his mom’s (and the panda’s) rescue with the help of his adventurous friend Laura (Emma Lockhart) and his nerdy sidekick A-Plus (Austin Rogers).
I had so much fun playing Ace Ventura’s son in this movie. People often ask me how it felt to fill Jim Carrey’s shoes for this role, but let me clarify: I did not fill Jim Carrey’s shoes—I replaced them with a small size-5 pair. I created my own mini version of Ace Ventura, and I had a blast doing it. I didn’t get to talk to Jim Carrey about the role, but I’ve seen the “Ace Ventura” movies so many times that I felt prepared.
We had a lot of fun off camera, too. When we were filming in Florida, Austin Rogers (who plays A-Plus) and I got some raw tortilla dough from a Mexican restaurant. We threw some of the dough at buildings and it would stick—I went back to the set about a month later and the dough was still there! Another time we put a big chunk of the dough in a microwave to see if it would rise, and it ended up setting the microwave on fire. I put out the fire by spraying it with a hose, but it was pretty scary!
